Reflection

Thanks to Florida International University and the Global Medallion program, I have participated in various courses and activities understanding what defines a global citizen. Global citizenship is about having awareness, flexible perspectives and engagement.  Many world problems can be solved at a local level. One of the important lessons I learned was “Think globally, act locally.” Many people want to change the world but do not know how, the answer is to do small actions that have meaningful impacts. To solve a problem sometimes you must change your perspective to find the solution.

After graduation, I hope to get accepted into the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. I want to take some time and improve my Japanese linguistic skills and share my culture in the local community while being immersed in theirs. Before college, I used to think that I should focus on finding employment and enrolling in school somewhere in the United States. Now for my masters, I want to continue my education in Japan and hopefully become a scientist there. Since my amazing study abroad journey, I have encouraged others to travel, learn, and experience the world.

As a result of my international experience, I have developed a greater knowledge about Japanese culture, and the ability to speak intermediate Japanese. I also developed a desire for more diverse friendships and social networks. I can proudly say that my sense of confidence in new situations or meeting new people has improved. Additionally, I recognize the importance I put on developing my skills and talents. Studying Abroad contributed to greater awareness of the opportunities in life that are open to me.
